During the 2019 edition of The Crystal Ship, British artist Helen Bur drew her inspiration from the theme of that year’s ‘Theater Aan Zee’ festival: ‘engagement’. She created dozens of smaller portraits of local citizens, painted on their own façades. This produced a series of strong images that are as technically refined as they are haunting. A fun detail in this is that her subjects are always walking – a clever way to create a greater sense dynamics.
